[From the mp3 vault]posted by pete at 16:25Having never given DJ Shadow's The Private Press much of a spin, I am pleased to report that I now love it. Should have known that I would.
Also digging the Yeah Yeah Yeahs of late; in fact the guitarist showed up at a couple of parties in Tokyo recently.

[500 each]posted by pete at 13:24Tricky's Angels with dirty faces and James Iha's Let it come down. So there.

[More... more!!!]posted by pete at 13:59Oh hold me back at those rip off shops... most of the CDs work, to some degree at least...
Beck Seachange, Magnolia soundtrack, Kruder & Dorfmeister K & D sessions, Zero 7's most recent, Morcheeba Charango, David Bowie Hunky Dory, The Cruel Sea The honeymoon is over, Joni Mitchell For the roses, Kraftwerk Tour de France, Prince Purple Rain, The Strokes Is this it, Bjork Homogenic, Bell and Sebastian Tigermilk and Dear catastrophe waitress and one other that I can't think of right now.
Oh to be so out of control.

[Piracy]posted by pete at 23:57Probably serves me right that Franz Ferdinand didn't work, but I just bought another copy. Also got DJ Shadow's Endtroducing, 4 Hero's Creating Patterns and Sneaker Pimp's Becoming X which is such a wonderful album but sadly my copy doesn't play properly.
The pitfalls of shopping in Asia...
[Paper slips on walls]posted by pete at 17:32Who other than record companies and struggling artists wouldn't love Hanoi's pirate CD shops?
I bought Franz Ferdinand (and feel no guilt), Radiohead's Hail to the thief (buying a ripoff is strangely appropriate given their whole anti-consumer thing, so no guilt) and U2's latest (as if they need the financial assistance, therefore guilt free).
Now all that's left to find out is whether the CDs actually track properly...

[Stockpiling]posted by pete at 16:23I bought a Soul Coughing album, the title of which I cannot recall. I also bought Joni Mitchell's Mingus, Crowded House's Together Alone and Supergrass' I Should Coco. Is there no end to the fun?

[Spin me a live one]posted by pete at 11:28Forever Changes by Love is my most recent olden days psychedelic obsession, although the last few tracks on the disc don't really interest me at all.
As for live music, well I don't really see it all that much anymore. Last concerts were in Australia (New Buffalo and Doug Ashdown), and of course the freaky Shinjuku modern classical music thing, but what I did do was go to see a DJ set in a deserted part of Shibuya on Sunday night. I have always maintained and even asserted that progressive house is lame, and I think it is, but when blended with electro or pseudoindustrial clanking sounds I can really really dig it.
So that was fun.
