[Used discs]posted by pete at 21:12Maybe I was a bit harsh on Omni Trio, as I actually quite like it now (within reason), but this does not excuse the countless other examples of pretentious yet trite drum'n'bass.
Today I bought Sinead O'Connor's I do not want what I haven't got for 600 yen at a used CD store in Koenji, which constitues yet another good find in this land of CD bargains!

[Rewind]posted by pete at 23:56Basically I cannot say for sure why it was that I bought the Omni Trio CD Haunted Science, because I really hate pretentious mid-nineties drum'n'bass with its trite melodies and 7 minute repetitions of four bars.
But I bought it.
I could blame Marc for reminding me (when I rang him from the CD store, having discovered the disc going relatively cheap) that Tripping on broken beats is a great track, but such assigning of blame overlooks the fact that I am an adult and can make decisions for myself.
So I have this CD. I figure I'll give it a few spins and if I still don't like it, I'll get rid of it somehow.
Crappy crappy drum'n'bass. In retrospect, I fail to see how it ever engaged anyone (ignoring the obvious drug link), despite having myself bought numerous compilations. I have always loved the 'feel' of this music, but about 2/3 of the way through another 12 minute 'epic', and it all starts to seem a little indulgent.
I don't universally hate drum'n'bass I could reel off some great CD titles in fact but it pays to be just a tiny bit discerning, methinks...
