[Closer I am to broke]posted by pete at 14:08Most recent acquisitions: Indigo Girls Swamp Ophelia and Nomads, Indians, Saints, both of them for $25.
Unmitigated spending... what a joy!

[Three week loan]posted by pete at 14:17I was browsing in the good old Prahran Library one recent day when I stumbled across the Kraftwerk album Trans-Europe Express, which I promptly borrowed. I'd heard bits and pieces of these techno pioneers, and had also seen them live at the Big Day Out (they were the highlight of the day), but this is the first time I've listened to an entire album. And I really love it, particularly the title track with its hypnotic beat and vocoder lyrics. My flatmate Jess isn't so sure about them though.
That same day I borrowed the Indigo Girls album Become you. I'm a bit of a fan but hadn't heard this one before, so it's been fun discovering the new songs. I'm always blown away by the harmonies achieved by these Southern progressive-folk-rocker-ish girls... I think in general I'm more a fan of Emily's songs but Amy's penned some very very cool tunes too (Starkville springs to mind).

[Ambiguous rockers]posted by pete at 14:14I've said it once, I'll say it again, I'm officially obsessed with The White Stripes. Their album Elephant is superb!

[Growing]posted by pete at 17:53Two more to the collection: Deb gave me Joni Mitchell's Don Juan's reckless daughter for my birthday, and I stole Talvin Singh's OK from her personal collection. Should I say, I convinced her to hand it over given that she never listens to it.

[Charmless man]posted by pete at 19:14After wanting it for years, I finally picked up Blur's The great escape for $10! One of my defining albums of year 10/11, it's about time I actually owned it! :)
