[Angkor Wat Theme I]posted by pete at 09:26Listening to the In the Mood for Love soundtrack. So incredibly beautiful, although some of the Chinese opera music does my head in.

[Those Eastern capitals]posted by pete at 14:56I didn't mention the fact that the DJ Shadow concert has been cancelled. (At least not in this section of my site!)
Apparently the Adelaide show was dropped so that another could be staged in Melbourne. Very disappointing.
[Subcity]posted by pete at 14:54I don't know what my obsession with edgy American female singer-songwriters is all about, but whatever, I bought Tracy Chapman's Crossroads anyway.

[And another...]posted by pete at 09:34The Tokyo String Quartet is playing in the Adelaide Town Hall this Friday night as part of the MusicaViva series. I have absolutely every intention of attending, and Dad will be in the city that day so he can come along too. It will be glorious. They are playing works by Schubert, among others, and I'm looking especially forward to hearing Death and the Maiden. What a perfect way to spend an evening!
[Another fine concert]posted by pete at 09:28I should also mention that I have my ticket to DJ Shadow, who is playing at Heaven II (yuck) on December 1. I really hope that he plays lots of stuff from Endtroducing, as I've been borderline obsessed with that album in recent weeks. The Private Press is almost lame by comparison. But whatever tracks he spins, it's bound to be a fun evening.
[I knew these were in the wings]posted by pete at 09:07Also added to the card: U2's The best of 1990-2000 & b-sides WITH a bonus DVD, all for only $34.95! The other CD I purchased was Nick Drake's wonderfully stark Pink Moon that one was $14.95...
It has to be said that Rev Music in the daCosta Arcade is the best CD store in the Adelaide CBD. Sure, there are some specialist stores dotted around the place that have their attractions, but in terms of having a decent (albeit not all-encompassing) range and almost ridiculously cheap prices, Rev is the go. The man who runs it is really nice and completely unpretentious too, so all in all it's a winner, and it makes one feel so conscious to support a local business. :)

[I need a new CD rack]posted by pete at 16:10Blue and Ladies of the Canyon. Both by Joni Mitchell. Both purchased today in North Adelaide.

[Spree]posted by pete at 09:02My obsession with Cat Power's The Covers Record has been irrefutably demonstrated by this particular blog, and after having gone on and on about it I finally purchased the album yesterday, as part of my 'day of spending'. I think I owed Chan the purchase.
Other albums that I owe it to the artist to buy:
PJ Harvey - Stories from the city, stories from the sea
REM - Automatic for the people and Out of time
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Manitoba - Start breaking my heart
LTJ Bukem - Journey Inwards
Nick Drake - Pink Moon (well, I owe it to his family at least...)There are others, but I can't think of them right now.

[I put a spell on you]posted by pete at 10:03Latest addition to my musical family: a Nina Simone best-of compilation. Should be glorious, even though I only know about one of the songs on the disc.
While I'm talking best-ofs, I'm obviously going to be purchasing the new U2 one... yes I have all their albums anyway, but this latest release comes with a b-sides remix (or something, could be very lame because I hate the 'house' remixes of U2 tracks that have floated about in recent years) and best of all, a DVD of some kind.
